Our Governors

Welcome to the St Agnes School Governors page.

The Governing Body is made up of sixteen volunteers which is a mix of staff from St Agnes' School, parents (who are elected), foundation governors (who are appointed by The Archbishop of Westminster) and Local Authority.

The Foundation Governors ensure that the Catholic ethos of the school is maintained. They work in close partnership with Mrs O'Reilly the Head Teacher to oversee the strategic development of the school and provide a high quality of education for all the pupils, which meets their needs and supports their development.

They support St Agnes' School by agreeing budgets, setting policies, monitoring the curriculum and overseeing school improvements and maintenance.

Gill Abbott - Chair of Governors

"I became a Parent Governor in 2001, then Chair in 2010. My two children attended St Agnes' which gave them the best start in their education. I am a local childcare provider with two outstanding inspections, so I understand the importance of quality care and education. St Agnes' School has come a long way in the last 4 years with our dedicated Head Teacher and staff."

Patrick Phelan - Vice Chair

"I was born in Kilburn of Irish Parents who moved to Cricklewood when I was about 4 years old and attended St Agnes' from the age of 5 until 11 before moving to St James' which was then on 2 sites, annexe in Stanmore and the main site in Burnt Oak.  My professional background started in Local Government, working for various Local Authorities in Administration. I now work Freelance in the education sector for several Universities and Colleges with the London area.  I am also active with the Parish as a Eucharistic Minister and was for many years an Altar Server and Master of Ceremonies."

Sharon Noden - Foundation Governor

I have served as a Governor since 2012, first as a Parent Governor and now as a Foundation Governor."

Lisa Pate - Foundation Governor

"I have 4 children and have been a Governor at St Agnes' for 6 years. I work with children with Special educational Needs and am passionate about education and fair access for all. I am active in local politics and really value all the efforts that the school staff, Governors and parent/carers put into helping children achieve their best."

Fr John Buckley - Foundation Governor

"I trained to be a Priest in Ireland for the Diocese of Westminster - I have now been in the Diocese for 42 years. I have seen service in a number of Parishes, more recently been Parish Priest in Tottenham for 18 years after being Parish Priest for 10 years at Harrow Road.
I have been St Agnes' Parish Priest for 2 years.

My interests relate to Church matters, current affairs, history and sport. I'm very keen on establishing and maintaining links between Parish and the School. Academic education and education in faith are two sides of the coin to me and serve as the ultimate purpose of our endeavours as the Community of Faith here in Cricklewood."

Joan Mulvihill - Foundation Governor

"I am a Social Worker and have worked in the voluntary sector and with local authorities - the latter of which I have held senior positions. I also have experience of working with the homeless on a voluntary basis.  I am an active parish member currently running a friendship group. I am Irish and have lived in Cricklewood for 14 years. I am married with 1 daughter.

I am very committed to the right of all children to have a good education and feel that at St Agnes, the Head Teacher and the staff and Governors ensure that a very high standard of education is delivered and that every child matters."

Pamela Murphy - Foundation Governor

"I am a parishioner in St Agnes' Parish and was appointed as Foundation Governor to St Agnes in 2016.  Having attended local catholic schools myself, I qualified as a teacher and taught in a catholic primary school before moving into special education.  I am currently Head of School at an all age (4-19) special school in Westminster.

From a number of different perspectives, I am aware of the valuable role that an active Governing body can have in supporting the whole school community.  It is a privilege to be able to be part of the wonderful educational opportunities on offer at St Agnes'."

Susan O'Reilly - Head Teacher & Foundation Governor

"I have worked in Catholic Schools with the Westminster Diocese since graduating from St Mary's University in Strawberry Hill in 1993 - in the London Boroughs of Camden, Harrow & Barnet.

I have been both Deputy Head of two schools and Acting Head and am currently in the very privileged position of being the Head Teacher of St Agnes' Catholic Primary School since April 2014.  Working as part of a genuine community - where Governors, parents and staff all work together to ensure that our children have access to an outstanding Catholic education is key to our success.

St Agnes School is an inclusive and flourishing school, of which I am very proud to be a part of as we journey together into the next phase of our history and expansion of our school."

Sophie Gale - Staff Governor

"I have worked at St Agnes for 12 years and have been a member of the senior leadership team for 8 years. During that time, I have been lucky enough to teach in various classes - 3/4, 3, 1/2 and 6 - where I am currently one of the class teachers. I have lead ICT and English across the school. Over my tenure as staff governor I have seen many changes. It has been very exciting and a privilege to be a part of it all. St Agnes’ is my second family and I truly believe that the staff and governors hold the children’s best interests at the heart of each decision. I look forward to continuing in being a part of the future of the school as we continue to grow in many exciting ways."

Emmy Schwieters - Parent Governor

"I have lived in Barnet for fifteen years. I am married with two children, Oscar and Violet, and they are happy and absolutely thriving at St Agnes. I am Director of Studies and Head of Department at Fine Arts College, Hampstead, where I have taught History of Art A level for fourteen years.
My background in education and my experience as a parent have provided me with the skills and knowledge to enable me to work effectively as a Parent Governor and help contribute to the further development of St Agnes' School. I am thrilled to be part of the St Agnes’s governing body and look forward to using my professional expertise, knowledge and experience to help improve parent partnership, the learning culture and educational outcomes for all pupils at the school."

 Maureen Brookbanks - Parent Governor

My relationship with the St Agnes’ community is now almost four-decades long. I was baptised in St Agnes’ Church and attended St Agnes’ School along with my two sisters. I loved school and, today, feel privileged to be sending my daughter, Grace, to such a warm, caring and clearly thriving institution - one that has been at the heart of my family for so long.
I’m currently an editor and journalist at a national newspaper, a role I have had for over 15 years. I hope to bring my professional expertise to bear in my role as Governor, and help negotiate what is a challenging time for schools and families. From assisting with fundraising and communication, to improving academic standards and instilling a passion for learning in all children, I aim to do my best for the whole school community in my role as Parent Governor, and help children from normal backgrounds just like mine accede to their full potential.

Jack Cohen – Local Authority Governor

"I have been a local Councillor for Childs Hill since 1986, since which time I have served as a Governor at St Agnes'.  Until my retirement, I worked as a Probation Officer. I was Mayor of Barnet in 2000."
