Here, at St Agnes’, our aim is to make all of our Houses; St Teresa, St John Southwort, St Alban and St Faustina the best houses that they can possibly be. In order to do so we have a number of tasks such as organising charity events and non-school uniform days.

The House Captains are a group of Year 6 children who are elected by their peers, at the beginning of the academic year, to decide on local, national and global charities to support throughout the year. They also add up house points on a weekly basis which are then celebrated at our Friday Celebration Assembly. They have termly meetings with Miss Melvin to think about and to suggest ways of fundraising both locally and nationally. After each school meeting, the children have a short research project to complete.

The first task  was to research local and national charities that they believed would benefit from help. They put forward their ideas to Miss Melvin and debated which charities they felt were best and why. They all agreed to support the following charities as they felt that they were close to their hearts.

They picked BBC Children in Need because it helps children in poverty, those separated from their families, children with disabilities or children who have a life-changing illness and I am sure we will all agree that we know or have known someone in a situation like this. They went around to inform all of the classes in the school about BBC CIN and we organised a non-uniform day where children wore Pudsey Bear clothing, red noses or any other item of bright clothing. In turn we raised a massive £317 for BBC CIN.

Another fundraising event organised by the House Captains was a ‘Movie Afternoon’ at a charge of 50p per child. They raised £105 for WWF.

In addition, they also decided to raise money for Red Nose Day 2019. They encouraged children to be creative and wear red for the day as well as organising a treasure hunt for KS1 and KS2 classes. The children managed to raise a sum of £290.70.
